As already announced in our glimpse into 2017 article, this year’s focus will be, among other topics, on the new MRV regulation.
In July 2015, a new MRV regulation (monitoring, reporting and verification) has been decided on and will become effective 01.01.18. The new regulation defines guidelines for monitoring, reporting and verifying CO2 emissions for vessels with more than 5000 GT. The aim is to sustainably monitor and reduce emissions. Prior to the entry into force, shipping companies are obliged to establish a monitoring system for those vessels concerned.
What’s the meaning of this?
To monitor the CO2 emissions of their fleet, shipping companies are obliged to surveil the following key figures:
- Port of departure and port of arrival, including the date and hour of departure and arrival
- Amount and emission factor for each type of fuel consumed in total
- CO2 emitted
- Distance travelled
- Time spent at sea
- Cargo carried
- Transport work
What does this mean to CFM-users?
Relaxation! As already announced last summer, we took all preparations to guarantee MRV conformity for your company. By expanding our reports section to a complete Event-Reporting module, we implemented all above-mentioned key figures and are currently putting the final touches to our MRV solution.
How are we able to guarantee MRV conformity?
To determine the CO2 emissions, the EU released multiple approaches for calculation. Based on these and the data generated by our Bunker- and Event-Reports, we are able to easily give you an overview about the emissions of your fleet by constantly comparing the bunker at the beginning of the voyage with the daily consumptions as well as entering other factors as the carried cargo into the equation.
Thanks to a timeline view, you are able to track the consumptions of your vessels as well as make sure that the reports are valid and entered on time.
With CFM you are all geared up
Especially interesting to our customers: You don’t need to get used to new modules. We are already able to generate all required data with our pre-existing reports. You continue working as usual and we take care of the rest.
If you are currently looking for a MRV monitoring solution, don’t hesitate to make an on-site appointment. We are happy to present our application to you and answer all your questions regarding MRV.
